Western Addition
San Francisco, CA
Three generations bring vibrancy to this three-story, two-flat 1890s Victorian residence. In this modest kitchen, dining, and laundry renovation, our goal was to preserve and celebrate the home’s rich architectural character and layered family history while introducing a clean, warm, modern sensibility.
Our approach was intentional and restrained: contemporary interventions are expressed through unapologetic modern detailing, yet thoughtfully integrated, complementing the original craftsmanship and character without overpowering it. We reconfigured the kitchen and pantry to improve flow and function, introduced custom vertical-grain millwork to harmonize with the existing original Douglas Fir wood floors, and added new pocket doors and a laundry cabinet to enhance flexibility and storage.
The result is a quiet dialogue between past and present—where historic charm is not replaced, but carefully elevated for modern family life.
